![]() My NAS is 12TB with half dedicated to music/video files and the other half for other things (backups, photos, documents, etc), and I'm almost out of space. But that all depends on how much storage you need. I logged into my Nas via Firefox browser and it says I have the latest version of Java installed: 7.0. And back in Synology, we can use FileStation to confirm the file saved where we wanted it: That’s it You should now have Minio configured on your Synology DiskStation. ![]() SSD drives are getting less expensive, but are not quite at the price point per TB that I'd go with SSD storage if I were buying a NAS today. Just read a log file for Minimserver on my Synology Nas and it says: OpenJDK is not supported for this Nas. All the music tags are made with Mp3Tag and well organized from the start. I have about 3000 albums, all sorts off music and lots off classical music. Especially if you're getting 8+ TB of storage. Now I have them both running on the NAS, MinimServer and the Synology standard Mediaserver. However, SSD storage is still much more expensive than the equivalent HDD storage. MinimServer is a great UPnP Audio Server which provides a better way to explore your music collection with Intelligent Browsing and many more outstanding features. SSD drives don't spin down so don't have that issue. With most NAS software you can configure whether the NAS ever goes into sleep mode and whether it spins down the drives. But once the drives are spinning there is no issue with speed and the next tracks will start immediately. So if the drives are in power save mode it will take about 10 to 15 seconds for the music to start playing. Then it takes about 10 seconds for the drives to wake up and stream files. When I had MinimServer installed on my Windows 10 PC with German UI settings, everything showed up in German in the UPNP player app. Synology Knowledge Center offers comprehensive support, providing answers to frequently asked questions, troubleshooting steps, software tutorials, and all the technical documentation you may need. The only speed issue with spinning hard drives is that the NAS will want to spin them down and put them in a power save mode after some period of inactivity. The help files also said that MinimServer would pick up the language of the system where its installed and set the language accordingly, but apparently, this doesnt work on my Synology NAS. I now need to spend time organizing my library, creating playlists, and getting remotes and clients.Spinning hard drives are plenty fast enough for serving and streaming audio and video files. It browses fast and is very usable - unlike Minim Server - and this sells me on this setup. PS - My Synology doesn't do Docker but I am fine with getting a separate PC running either Windows or Linux and installing a server on there and pointing to the NAS for library. I would also like to be able to create music playlists using a laptop or a smart phone. The AVR has its own dlna client but I can also play a dlna source from Kodi.Ĭurrently I just browse the files from Kodi and play them but that gets difficult as my collection grows. ![]() Has anyone used these and have any thoughts they can share? Primary use will be for playing flac files on a Denon AVR. If you have activated a MinimServer 2 full license for a QNAP or Synology NAS running MinimServer 2, this license activation includes all MinimServer 2 instances running on that NAS, including instances running in Docker or LXC containers. ![]() ![]()
